Scars caused by acne are not good things to have on your face. Fortunately, you do not have to suffer from all this throughout your life. There are plenty of options you can use to get rid of these nasty scars. Here are five of the best acne scar treatment products available today.

1. Green Tea

The result is less noticeable scars and a revitalized skin which looks and feels great. It is actually included in several moisturizers and skin lotions and creams for the same reason.

2. Chemical Peels
Depending on the potency of the treatment, a chemical peel may be purchased from a pharmacy or prepared by a dermatologist. 3. Microdermabrasion
Using this method can be done either at a doctor's office or from home kits purchased from a drugstore. This involves applying crystals of aluminum oxide to remove the outermost layer of the skin. Scars heal faster this way and promote the removal of dead skin. You will be advised to wear sunscreen after undergoing treatment though. This is done to alleviate any feeling of soreness.

4. Filler Materials
Some acne scars reach deeper into the skin that need a treatment with a bit more punch. When this happens, the best acne scar treatment products would be filler materials. More often than not, collagen is the choice for the filler material and is applied in the problem area to level off with the rest of the skin. You will have to undergo this procedure regularly because it is a temporary solution.

The Many Types of Acne That You May Be Affected By

Written By Your Friend on Thursday, November 24, 2011 | 11:42 PM

There are several variations of acne that a person may be affected by. It is a good idea to become familiar with the basics of them. That way you can pursue natural remedies and over the counter products that are designed to specifically combat those types of situations. That information can also help you to decide if you should seek professional methods of acne treatment.

Acne Vulgaris is the common form of acne that people develop. There are many types of lesions that fall into this particular category. They include cysts, pustules, whiteheads, and blackheads. They can be mild or moderate if they are whiteheads and blackheads. However, they will be quite severe if they are going to create cysts.

There are various types of treatment that can be used to fight this kind of acne. The sooner that action is taken, the less likely it is that a person will suffer from scars or other problems. Try home remedies first. Over the counter products that have Tea Tree Oil with Benzoyl Peroxide can help with reducing inflammation and killing acne.

Acne Conglobata is another form of acne, and it is more common in males than females. This kind of acne involves legions on the body that are also connected by blackheads. This type of acne can be very long lasting and the lesions can be very deep. The damage to the skin can be permanent too in the form of scars.

This type of acne is most often going to develop on the face, but it can appear on any part of the body. To help reduce scars look for products that contain Salicylic Acid. It may be necessary for a type of prescription acne treatment to be used due to the severity of this type of acne.

Acne Fulminans is very rare, and it also seems to affect males more often than females. It is very similar in appearance to Acne Conglobata. However, it is often associated with a fever. This acne also can cause a great deal of scarring. It isn't easy to clear up, and it often requires the use of prescribed oral steroids.

Gram Negative Folliculitis is a kind of acne that is associated with a bacterial infection. It is often going to create lesions such as cysts and pustules. This type of acne is very hard to clear up. It will likely require a long round of antibiotics. This is a rare form of acne and it isn't really known what causes it to be so different from other forms of acne.

Pyoderma Faciale is a severe form of acne that affects women around 20 to 40 years old. This kind of acne is very painful due to the large nodules and pustules that are created. They also create very deep scars. This type only affects the face, and it can last for up to a full year. Accutane and Corticosteroids are often used to help fight it.

Treatments for Acne - Natural, Conventional and Mind-Body Medicine

Written By Your Friend on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 | 11:37 PM

Acne is caused by blocked hair follicles which get infected, causing inflammation and resulting in the dreaded pimple, aka zit. No one knows the exact cause of acne, though it correlates with hormonal fluctuations especially during adolescence, as well as with stress and unclean skin. Closed-pore pimples have the common whitehead appearance, while open-pore pimples manifest as blackheads. The severity of acne depends on the degree of the infection and inflammation, and in some cases very inflamed pimples can rupture leading to the formation of nodules and cysts.

Most people will get acne at some point in their lives, but the degree to which people suffer from it varies quite a bit. Acne usually occurs on the face, neck, and back, though it can appear in other areas of well. Because it tends to show up in areas that are visible to the eye, acne can become a tedious and overwhelming issue for people, especially if it is severe or lasts for many years.

Conventional Treatments for Acne

Typical over the counter treatments for acne will involve either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Many products, such as the popular ProActiv, use both in their acne treatments. Benzoyl peroxide helps to reduce acne by introducing oxygen to the environment, which kills the bacteria responsible for producing acne. Salicylic acid penetrates the blocked hair follicle, exfoliating dead skin cells to clear up the pore. Effectiveness of these products varies from person to person. Common side effects of both medications are irritation and redness of the skin, dryness and peeling, and sensitivity to sunlight or touch.

For more persistent cases of acne, prescription medicines such as topical retinoids, azelaic acid, and topical antibiotics can be used to help further kill bacteria-causing acne and increase removal of dead skin cells. In severe cases, antibiotics or isotretinoin (formerly sold as Accutane) can be prescribed and taken internally, but these can pose a number of serious side effects, most notably weak immunity and antibiotic-resistant bacteria with antibiotics, and miscarriage or severe birth defects in the case of isotretinoin.

In the case of women, birth control pills are often helpful in controlling acne. They do this by controlling the level of androgens produced by the body, which are correlated with an increased incidence of acne. While this method has shown an improvement in acne for at least 80% of women, it comes with the typical side effects associated with birth control such as increased risk for cardiovascular issues or breast cancer.

Natural Treatments for Acne

There is no natural miracle cure for acne, otherwise we'd all know about it and the rest of the acne treatment world would be out of business. But many people are seeking an alternative to the often harsh conventional treatments, or have had little luck and would like to try another route. One of the benefits of taking a natural approach to treating acne, is that a good natural remedy for acne will involve treating the body from the inside out, combining both topical treatment and internal supplements in helping to address the source of the outbreaks.

    * Herbal medicines taken topically will have antibacterial, nourishing, soothing and anti-inflammatory effects. Examples of medicinal herbs are lavender, tea tree, aloe, chamomile, cucumber, green tea, and allantoin, among many other potential candidates.

    * In addition, vitamins that help improve the health of the skin can be added to topical creams or gels or taken internally. Vitamins A, pantothene (vitamin B), C, D, and E all have beneficial effects on the skin, helping to reduce oils and improve the health of skin cells.

    * Acne often involves hormonal imbalance, specifically hormonal spikes which involve the increased production of androgens. Balancing hormonal levels can be aided through the use of herbal supplements such as maca root, vitex, or black cohosh.

    * The accumulation of toxins in the body correlates with acne. The liver is a major organ involved in detoxifying the blood, and herbs such as milk thistle, burdock, and dandelion root can help improve liver function and increase detoxification. Note: during a liver detox, it is common for acne symptoms to temporarily worsen before they improve, as the body flushes out toxins.

    * The digestive system is also related to toxins in the body, and outbreaks of acne increase when digestion is slowed by chronic constipation. A quality fiber formula, or adding fiber to your diet can help keep digestion healthy and reduce the buildup of toxins in the body.

    * Your immune system is involved in the process of fighting bacteria-causing acne, so a weakened immune system can lead to increased outbreaks. While it can help acne temporarily to take natural herbs to strengthen the immune system such as echinacea or goldenseal, most likely there is an underlying cause behind a weakened immune system. Usually this involves chronic stress or lack of sleep, which can disturb the balance of the immune system as well as the hormonal systems in the body. Herbs such as ashwaghanda, rhodiola, licorice, or holy basil can help balance stress hormones such as cortisol and improve quality of sleep.

Other tips for dealing with acne naturally:

    * Drink plenty of water, it makes a big difference. This helps increase circulation, flush out waste and toxins from the skin, and keep the immune system healthy.

    * Exercise regularly. Again this will help improve metabolism and circulation, and helps to strengthen the immune system and prevent acne breakouts.

    * Sometimes people have responses to certain foods which will trigger acne breakouts. If you are aware of particular foods in your diet that make acne worse, do your best to avoid these.

    * Drinking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with water a couple of times per day provides antibacterial properties as well as improves digestion.

The Mind-Body Connection in Acne

This is an often overlooked element of acne, but a strong factor in chronic outbreaks. As mentioned above, chronic stress is correlated with acne, and mental and emotional patterns involved in increasing stress will increase the chances you have a breakout of acne. When the body releases an overabundance of stress hormones it has a number of effects on the body, including disrupting hormonal balance and weakening the immune system. So if stress is a factor in your acne breakouts, changing your lifestyle to reduce stressful situations, or examining the thoughts or feelings that are causing you stress can help with acne.

Another thing to consider, which may sound weird at first, is that your acne may be serving a purpose. Acne can cause people to feel as if it is holding them back from doing the things they want to in life, and it can become a problem that is easy to obsess about. But at the same time, perhaps thinking constantly about acne poses a safer, known problem, versus the greater fears or insecurities regarding achieving the successes you want. In other words, acne may be a crutch, or an excuse which provides a rationale for not going for the things you want in life. If this is rings a bell, don't let your acne hold you back. Pursue the things you want in your life regardless of whether you have acne or not, and you may find that having acne no longer serves a purpose and will go away.

Particularly for people who have suffered from acne for a long time, it can feel sometimes like an issue that will never go away. Start by challenging this belief, and then regardless of what methods you use to treat your acne your chances of resolving it will increase dramatically.

Hormonal Acne Treatment - How to Cure Your Acne Fast

Written By Your Friend on Monday, November 21, 2011 | 11:35 PM

Acne is truly a predicament among teenagers. One factor that causes acne among adolescents is due to the male hormones. However, this cause has its hormonal treatments too. What do you call the hormones that affect the acne?

Actually, acne (acne vulgaris) hit to both men and women when they go the adolescence stage, hit the monthly period, women become pregnant an even upon menopausal stage. Upon the adolescent stage, their glands produce sex endocrines which also protect throughout all the body tissues. These hormone is commonly known as androgen. Since this sex endocrine is regularly found among guys, guys are are most number of affected groups of this skin problem.

One of the effect of the androgen is that it induce the great sebaceous glands (oil glands) which are associated with the skin's hair follicles (pores). The sweat gland actually continue to be lively although its secretion can no longer reach the skin surface. But as the very small gland bulges, it stretches the surrounding tissues and produce a white dot, which forms the white head. In some cases, the afflicted secretion undergoes some chemical reaction changes which makes it look dark in colour. Thus, a blackheads develop at the site of the hair follicle. As a sweat human gland and its hair follicle stretch even more, they ruptures that cause local infection. Then it produces a papule then to a pustule or known as pimple.

What are the different treatments to consider to acne caused by hormone? It is advisable to learn the self-treatment of yourself. This treatment depends upon on how to take care of yourself. One of the step is to wash your face and upper trunk of your body with warm water using mild, non-irritating soap three times a day. Steam your face for 15 minutes after washing once per day. Abstain for cosmetics. If a pustule or pimple occurs, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PRICK the pimples with your fingers. With these, avoid touching your face with your fingers dirty. Drink plenty of fruit juices and fresh water. Get enough sleep at least 7 to 8 hours a day. Eat less starchy foods, sweets, chocolates and nuts. To make your skin looks healthy, observed a wholesome, proper and balanced diet. That is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Another hormonal acne treatment is the topical treatment. It refers to use the lotions, gels and creams according to the skin type and condition of the acne, from mild to moderate to severe. On the other way, apply the oral treatment with the help and advice of the skin experts. They might prescribed what are the best treatment to help to induce the production of oil from the tiny sebaceous gland. One of the advisable hormonal oral acne treatment is the intake of anti-androgen. Proper intake of this medicine will just reduce the sebum production not totally eliminates. Sebum production is also has important function to the body, its activity should not be stop.

Another hormonal treatment is applying the hormonal therapy. This treatment is about the process of reversing the excessive production of male sex hormones. In addition it may control the androgen.

The condition of the body relies on the proper taking care of the individual's health and that includes how you take care of your skin. The hormonal acne treatment should be given with importance to make your skin look healthy, younger, flawless and acne-free.

Light Therapy For Acne - Can It Really Work?

Written By Your Friend on Sunday, November 20, 2011 | 11:33 PM

If acne is a problem for you then you probably just want a solution that will work quickly and effectively. Light therapy for acne is not a new solution, in the years before we wised up about the damage that sunlight can do to the skin many doctors would advise acne sufferers to let the sun dry up their acne problem. Of course that is not a sensible solution as it could potentially replaces the acne with much more serious and even life threatening conditions.

Fortunately modern acne light therapy lamps have solved that problem by providing light that is strong enough to treat acne but is not damaging to the skin. Acne light therapy lamps can offer a very real alternative to the creams and lotions that can be messy to apply and over time can lose their effectiveness.

How does Light therapy work on acne? The most effective treatments use a combination of blue and red light. Each particular wavelength works in its own way and together they can effectively clear up acne and make sure it does not come back.

Blue light kills the bacteria that can lead to skin inflammation and the redness that is a classic symptom of acne. We naturally carry bacteria over the whole surface of the skin. Most of the time this causes no problems at all. But if the bacteria increase in levels the skin can become irritated and start to become inflamed. Blue light kills bacteria and is a useful tool for keeping it under control.

Red light encourages your body to generate new skin cells. This means that skin damaged by spots heals more quickly. Red light can even improve the appearance of skin damaged by acne scarring.

Once of the great things about using acne light therapy is the ease of treatment. Lotions can be very messy, they can stain clothing and sometimes skin can be irritated by the very treatments that are supposed to heal.

Using an acne lamp means simply exposing the affected skin to light for around 15 minute sessions. The light can be directed onto small areas to intensively treat outbreaks, or you can use the light to treat a wider area. Light therapy is a particularly effective treatment for back acne where a thorough cleansing routine is more difficult.

The biggest obstacle to using light therapy to treat acne is the initial cost. An acne lamp can cost from $100 - $200. But you need to remember that once you have made the purchase that is the end of your outlay. There is no need for additional lotions and the lamp will treat your acne for many years. Over time the acne lamp could be a more cost affective treatment.

If you have tried to control acne and not had a great deal of success with traditional medication then light therapy for acne is something you may wish to consider. You will not get instant results but if you use the light regularly you should notice an improvement in a fairly short time, significant results have been reported in clinical tests after four weeks of daily treatment. Once your acne is under control you will probably need to treat with light 3 times each week to maintain healthy, clear skin.

My blog at has a great deal more information about self managing acne including detailed information about Acne Light Therapy.

How To Get Rid Of Pimples Quickly - Natural And Rapid Acne Remedies

Written By Your Friend on Saturday, November 19, 2011 | 11:31 PM

On this page you are going to learn how to get rid of pimples quickly. We all know of various acne treatments that work, but often the imperative thing is that they work quickly. After all, what is the point in getting your skin clear after that big date this weekend? You want your skin to be looking its best the day of, not the day after! That's why you need to keep reading to learn how to get rid of pimples quickly and easily using some of the most effective natural and holistic acne treatment methods available.

* Increase your daily water consumption. The human body is around 70% water, so if you aren't getting enough of the cool, clear liquid then you are going to be in pretty major trouble. Make sure you are drinking at least a couple of liters of water every day (that is about half a gallon, for you Imperial measurement fans out there) However, if you are active or live in a warm climate then you could do with drinking up to four liters/1 gallon a day. Be careful not to overdo your water consumption, however, as this post demonstrates.

* Get some sunshine on your skin. Since you were a little kid you have probably been told that sunlight is just about the most evil thing out there. However, it is actually very good for the health of your skin, provided you get just the right amount of sunshine. Avoid getting so much sun that you burn; but 10-20 minutes a day will provide you with a lot of Vitamin D, and will have the effect of reducing the symptoms of acne quite markedly. UV light can have quite a profound impact on the health of your skin.

* Make use of the healing power of salt water. If you live by a beach, this is easy. If not, you are going to have to buy some sea salt and make your own saltwater concoction (please don't use iodized table salt, as that is going to dry your skin out very rapidly) Bathe your skin in saltwater at least twice a week- the healing power of salt water truly is amazing. You will notice that spots dry out very quickly, and your complexion will improve markedly. If you are prone to oily and flaky skin, this will improve a lot as well.

* Natural saltwater from the ocean is the best for this. I am not sure why (perhaps it has something to do with sand particles acting as a gentle exfoliant - please leave a comment if you know the answer!) but sea salt mixed with some warm water will have a similar effect.

* Use lemon juice topically. One of the most effective ways to get rid of pimples quickly is by using a natural astringent. Lemon juice is one such astringent. You may even have a lemon tree in your back garden, in which case all you need to do is pop out to the backyard, grab one, and juice it up. Use a cotton bud or something similar to carefully apply lemon juice directly to the spot itself. Do this twice a day, morning and night, until the spot has disappeared. You can then combat any potential scarring by using lemon juice again (I told you it's a brilliant natural remedy, as it treats both the pimples and any resulting scars)

* Cut down on stress. By taking time to relax and avoiding stressing yourself out, you will notice a marked improvement in the condition of your skin. This might sound stupid, but it actually works very effectively. Stressing out will lead to hormone spikes, and this is only going to result in more spots and worse skin. You need to consciously focus on relaxing, with techniques such as slow breathing exercises, in order to reduce stress in your body.

* Avoiding picking or squeezing pimples. We have all been guilty of doing this at some point or another, but picking and squeezing your pimples is not going to do much good for your skin. If you want to get rid of spots rapidly then you need to avoid squeezing them. Why? Because squeezing leads to inflammation of the skin, and in turn this is going to cause a worsening of your acne symptoms. Also, squeezing a whitehead can result in infection of the surrounding area, which will in turn lead to further pimples.

* Increasing your intake of Vitamin A. This important vitamin (and its relation Beta-Carotene) are noticeably absent from many peoples' diets. The easiest way to boost your Vitamin A/Beta-Carotene intake is to start eating carrots. Even better, you can make fresh carrot juice which concentrates the skin-healing power of carrots and will deliver a huge kick to your skin. After a few days of drinking fresh carrot juice you will notice a major improvement in your skin, and your pimples and spots will start to fade.

* Use a concealment product. Okay, this is cheating somewhat, by using a good concealer will allow you to get rid of unsightly pimples and spots in the shortest amount of time possible. This is a bit more difficult for guys, as wearing makeup is still taboo for most men. However, you can also employ the services of clothing or accessories that will help hide the offending pimples. Just remember to keep it natural- don't make it look as if you are deliberately trying to hide something.

* Use a holistic acne treatment system. One of the fastest and most effective ways to get rid of spots is to use holistic treatment. By healing your body and acne from the inside out you will get beautiful skin in the fastest way possible.

Acne Treatment Options for When Traditional Treatments Don't Work

Written By Your Friend on Friday, November 18, 2011 | 11:28 PM

Acne is a skin condition that affects millions of people every year. Contrary to popular belief, acne doesn't just affect teenagers and adolescents; adults of any age can suffer with the condition. Acne can have devastating consequences on self-esteem and confidence, and if left untreated or treated incorrectly, can lead to long-term scarring. Many products can be bought over-the-counter, and from health shops, to help combat acne, but sometimes these treatments just aren't enough to fix the problem. Doctors can also prescribe various creams and antibiotics which can help in some cases. But what do you do when traditional acne treatments don't work?

The first thing you should do is book an appointment to see a dermatologist. This may seem like an expensive option, but a dermatologist can offer specialist treatment advice specific to your needs. Weigh up the cost of one session with a dermatologist against the ongoing cost of over-the-counter pills and potions that just don't work. Professional treatment can save you money, and time, in the long run. Ask your doctor to recommend a reputable dermatologist, or choose someone who has been personally recommended to you, and always check out their credentials before booking an appointment.

The dermatologist will perform an examination to assess the severity of your condition, and will offer advice on how best to treat your acne. He may prescribe oral medications, topical treatments, or a combination of the two. These medications can be extremely powerful, but as with all prescribed drugs there are likely to be some side-effects. Your dermatologist will be able to advise you on what side-effects you can expect, and how you can minimize these effects.

If these treatments prove ineffective, there are several other options available. However, the following options should only be used as a last resort after all other treatments have failed and only under the care of your dermatologist.

Light Therapy

Light therapy uses a combination of red light and blue light to kill the bacteria that causes acne. It has been shown to be extremely effective in reducing the amount of spots by around three-quarters, and takes around twelve weeks for the full effects to be visible. However, it has proved most successful in cases of mild to moderate acne, while the more severe cases are sometimes resistant to treatment.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy also uses light sources to treat acne, but has proved more effective at treating severe acne than light therapy. Photodynamic therapy usually involves a course of 4 to 5 treatment sessions at 2 to 4 week intervals, depending on the severity of each case. Skin may be red, or may even start to peel, after treatments, but these effects usually pass quickly.

Laser Therapy

Laser treatments kill bacteria that can cause spots, and remove impurities from deep within the pores. It usually takes several treatments to see visible results but the results can be completely transformative, even in the case of severe acne. Laser therapy should not be undertaken lightly as there can be side effects, and you must check the credentials of your therapist carefully before agreeing to treatments.

Chemical Peels

There are various types of chemical peels, ranging from mild to deep penetration, which can be used to treat acne. A chemical peel is an acidic solution which is applied to the skin; it causes the outer skin layers to disintegrate so that they can be peeled away. Chemical peels can be effective in mild, moderate, and severe cases of acne, but must be done under strict supervision of a qualified doctor or dermatologist who can monitor your progress and any side-effects you have to the treatment.

7 Steps You Need To Know to Prevent Acne

Written By Your Friend on Thursday, November 17, 2011 | 11:24 PM

Acne is painful, annoying and even makes your face look unappealing. And, once you have it, it can be a challenging and difficult task to get rid of it. And, the worst thing is that if it is not treated properly, it can leave perpetual marks on your face. Hence, prevention is the best thing you want with acne, as you would not have to treat it if it does not occur. The following methods can help you avoid acne and also stay away from skin complications that can require surgery and operating room protocols or surgery to clear the scars on your face.

1. Wash your Face

Oil and dust can clog up the pores and cause acne break outs. Therefore you should be using an acne cleanser to regularly wash your face. For people with normal skin, it would be ideal to wash the face at least twice daily, and for those having dry skin, the face should be washed just once daily.

2. Acne Medication

Use acne cream or gel that contains benzoyl peroxide. This substance helps in killing the bacteria that causes acne and it also helps in drying up the excess amount of oil. Once you wash your face, massage this medication over the pores until they are not visible any longer.

Avoid popping the pimples as it can lead to formation of scars. If you want to prevent permanent scars, it is important that you wait until the puss is removed from the pimple.

3. Application of Moisturizer

When you use medication and cleaners, it can lead to dry skin. Therefore, it becomes necessary to use a moisturizer. In case you do not use a moisturizer, you will find your skin turning red and starting to peel off in a few weeks. Hence, make sure that you apply the moisturizer and massage it on the face.

4. Exfoliate

Use an exfoliator at least once a week to remove all the dead skin cells from your face. Dead skins cells can clog the pores, trapping the bacteria and leading to break out of acne. Most of the exfoliators are made using salicylic acid. Even though you can get your dermatologist to prescribe another highly powerful exfoliator, in most cases, salicylic acid is sufficient.

5. Using Mask

A facial mask should be applied at least once a week. These masks are ideal for pacifying irritated facial skin and for promoting circulation of blood. These masks are also ideal for minimizing soreness, reddening and itching due to acne.

6. Proper Diet

Antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables have been found to be effective in improving the body's immunity against bacteria that cause acne. It is also good to avoid coffee and soda if possible.

7. Exercise

Exercising regularly helps in releasing serotonin in the body. It helps in relieving the stress that generally causes acne. Exercise also helps in eliminating waste from the body by improving body's metabolism.
